During my undergraduate studies, I had a multitude of interests within the sphere of biology. I was initially intrigued by evolutionary ecology, which led me to doing field research on coral reef ecosystems in The Bahamas. Conversely, I was also incredibly fascinated by human physiology and took a particular liking to learning about the endocrine system, so it was going to be quite the challenge to decide which direction I wanted to pursue in my career. I earned my degree at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, which pushed me down a road I wouldn’t have expected just a few months prior.
After a brief stint working in the CLIA Lab processing COVID-19 samples, I began my career in research with Dr. Julia Oh at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine. In Dr. Oh’s lab, I developed a newfound passion for microbiome studies, particularly in pathogens and host-microbe interactions, and gained expertise in all things relating to Next-Generation Sequencing.
In the Grubaugh lab, I am excited to contribute my knowledge and hands-on abilities to ongoing pathogen genomics projects, specifically pertaining to Streptococcus pneumoniae and Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Outside of the lab, I can be found yapping about sports, especially the Packers, A’s, 76ers, and PSG. I also have a love for travel and have visited more countries than I have been to states within the US.
